“ it was my first time eating kbbq/hotpot since i've been in manchester and i've been waiting for this day to come!! a bunch of friends i've made since i've been here wanted to eat one last meal all together before we all leave for xmas break;; so happy that we decided to come here!! i made reservations a week before & gave them a rough estimate of 20-25 people but it was actually 19, which they asked a few times because they only had four burners/tables for kbbq & wanted to see if they could give one to another customer which we didn't mind bc in the end we all still had room to eat together!! we ordered EVERY meat for kbbq!! i was excited for hotpot bc back home, my family would celebrate thanksgiving with hotpot instead of the usual turkey;; it was mainly all meats with a few mushrooms, sweet potato, onions floating between orders lool but the service was SUPER amazing! i was able to speak cantonese with them which was even more great because we got to bond haha our whole group reordered rice about ten times along with more kbbq meats and hotpot refills but the service was seriously so patient and helpful and full of energy!! i will srsly come back to eat their other chinese dishes next time i'm in manchester! it was such an unforgettable night with all the friends i've gotten so close to and the great service at azuma that helped make our night even better!! ”
“ I went to Azuma with a party of 11 for a work thing. First thing to say about this place is it's kinda in the middle of the student area, but it's a short walk from Oxford Road so getting to it is a doddle. As there were so many of us, Azuma graciously let us do both the Chinese Hot Pot and the Korean BBQ. Between us, I think we ordered every kind of meat and vegetable they offered aside from some of the more adventurous ones like chicken hearts. (I'd have tried them tbh, but some others in the group were put off by the presence of raw prawns so hearts may have been a step too far.) Quantity was not a problem here. I'm a guy who can eat a good amount of food, but even I was stuffed by the end of our 2 hours here. All the meats for the BBQ were well seasoned, the marinades and dipping sauces were great, and the service was quick and attentive. The Chinese Hot Pot was less popular with our group, but I was making the most of that by putting everything in the spicy broth and then hoovering it up. Noodles, veggies, meats... all good and the spicy broth was immense. I love those peppercorns that make your mouth tingly. At about £30 for an unhealthy amount of meat and two Tsingtao beers, I was not complaining about the value. Well worth a visit. ”
“ Grabbing a meal around 20:30 on a Tuesday, we were surprised to see this place packed to the hilt with people, but the energy was fabulous. The menu was overwhelming, but we quickly figured out that no matter what we ordered, it was going to be delicious. The prawn toast appetizer was a fun start, and the little bottle of sorghum alcohol was uh... potent. The pork belly and vegetables was perfectly cooked and the prawn vermicelli casserole was very flavorful and satisfying. As always, I wish I could've eaten more but it's best I didn't, because they gave us stone henge-sized chunks of fresh watermelon to end the meal. While I can't say I recommend traditional Chinese sorghum liquor (though one bottle did do the trick for the both of us) this place offered up some of the best Szechuan food either of us has ever had. ”
“ What a wonderful place for barbecue, and hot pot, the food in terms of quality and quantity are absolutely amazing! The owner is affable and attentive to the quality of the service! ”
“ Fancy some Korean food but don't want to have to trek into town and find parking? How about korean bbq, fancy that? What about if it was ALL YOU CAN EAT korean bbq? Great! Got your attention then! Azuma is really really popular with students. Like, really popular. The location near the universities help, and being out of the parking zone means you can usually find a space to park. Always a queue, so always book ahead if you are coming. There are basically 3 menus here. All you can eat Korean bbq, all you can eat chinese hotpot, and a la carte menu serving everything east asian, from sushi to Szechuan chilli dishes. Whichever food you go for, you will be sure to find great affordable food at great affordable prices. Have a large group of friends with you? Why not try ordering from 3 menus together. Time and time again we come here as group of friends, ranging from a lonely twosome to a large birthday party of 10. Dont expect anything fancy of course- you do get what you pay for, but nowhere in Manchester is there so much choice for oriental food at these prices. Expect warm hospitality, good food and bottomless drinks in an always buzzing atmosphere. Great for a noisy catchup between friends. Just don't expect it to be quiet! PS- your clothes will probably smell of bbq if you stay here too long! PPS- does korean food but wholey chinese owned. ”
“ This is a very popular Chinese restaurant with Chinese students although the restaurant itself claims to be Korean. The staff are all Chinese & the dishes are very authentic mainly from central china. They do eat all you can BBQ & hotpot. It's good to go for both of them if there are 4 of you in a group (2 for hotpot & 2 for BBQ as 2 is the minimum number) I have enjoyed their food everytime I went there & their lobster cooked with garlic was so delicious but you need to call in to order in advance if you want lobster. In the autumn/winter time when new Chinese students have discovers this place, it is usually packed around dinner time. It might be better to call in to book a table. ”
“ Fantastic. Fish with a fermented black bean sauce, tree mushrooms and pork, fried noodles, endless Chinese tea. Great service, great price, great food. It's a must. ”
“ After two years living 15 minutes walk from this restaurant, I regret that my first visit is less than a month before I move. Somehow I had the impression that serving multiple cuisines would dilute the quantity but the Chinese menu here is pretty focused on Sichuan and has a lot of the classics e.g. my favourite fried chicken with chilli. For once though I skipped that and shared gong bao chicken, aubergine with pork, braised pork and beef with noodles. All were excellent and I would get them again and recommend. My friend got some kind of beef ribs as a takeaway and phoned from his train to report how good they were. Service was very prompt. We were told it would be 20 minutes for the braised pork. It was 20 minutes. We didn't sample the Korean BBQ but it's properly set up with the pans in the tables, so no doubt will be fun to try at least! I shall no doubt be back as much as possible before I depart! ”
“ Formerly 'Little Fusion', a very tasty Korean restaurant, this venue has become 'Azuma', an equally tasty Chinese diner. I visited recently with a group of around twenty people for a joint birthday party. We were a little on the rowdy side, and arrived in dribs and drabs, but despite this the staff were really patient and welcoming. We ordered a selection of Szechuan dishes (with help from the lovely owner who came over and recommended some things) which arrived in huge steaming bowls with a bottomless pot of rice. My favourites were the Kung Po Chicken (soft chicken, crunchy peanuts, sweet and salty sauce) and the pickled cucumbers which were spicy and refreshing. For £20 each we all had more food than we could manage, and one too many beers... The only let down of Azuma is that the decor and atmosphere are a bit lacking. Similar to other East-Asian diners, the room is large, packed with a mish-mash of furniture, and harshly lit with strip lights. This seems to be a standard of a certain kind of Chinese and Korean eatery - and whilst it may make the experience more authentic, it always makes me want to leave the restaurant as soon as we've finished eating, rather than sit and enjoy a coffee or dessert. Recommended for groups, cheap and authentic eats, but not for first dates or romantic occasions. ”
